The Loppet Foundation is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization whose mission is to promote and support cross country skiing in the Minneapolis area, especially among inner-city youth. The Foundation works with more than 1,000 children each year through its Loppet Adventure Program. The Foundation provides ski equipment, coaching and grooming at North Minneapolis elementary schools, runs the local chapter of Trips for Kids, providing mountain bike experiences to inner-city youth, runs Adventure and Ski Camps in Wirth Park, and teaches passion for lifelong outdoor activities through its year-round middle school programming. The Foundation also advocates for year-round lifetime activities. This winter has provided a great example of the value of the Foundation's work. The Foundation has worked for years with the Minneapolis Park & Recreation Board to bring snowmaking to the park. Without that snowmaking capability, there would have been no skiing in Minneapolis this winter and the Loppet would have been cancelled.
