Events in the Spotlight: September

August 25, 2014 - 6 minutes read

As summer slowing comes to an end and the crisp fall air sets in along with it comes some remarkable races. So don’t put those running shoes away just yet these races still have open registration! Here is a look into two of the races ZapEvent is excited to be a part of for the month of September.

Victory Labor Day Race
Race Date: September 1, 2014

This 33 year tradition is put on by The Minnesota Distance Running Association and Victory Races. With a 10k, 5k (or both!) and a kid’s run option this is an electrifying experience the whole family can enjoy. Up for the challenge? It’s not too late to participate, registration is still open! Here is what race director, Heidi Miler, has to say about the event:

Who should be registering for The Victory Labor Day Race? We offer a wide range of races, the 10K at 8:30, 5K at 9:45 and kids run at 10:15. The 5K and 10K are fast races on certified courses. Because we have the 10K and 5K at separate start times we also offer the “Doubleheader”. Runners can run both races for only an additional $10 to the 5K or 10K fee and get scored in a separate competition with other runners challenging themselves to the Double”.

What is your favorite part of Race Day? Since I have been around helping and or being in charge of the Victory races for some 25 years it is always fun to see friends who turn out year after year to support the race and enjoy in the family atmosphere. It is a tradition for me as far back as I can remember.

What upcoming MDRA/Victory events should racers be keeping an eye out for? Just six days after the Victory Races MDRA hosts our last race for the year, the Jeff Winter City of Lakes Half Marathon on Sunday, September 7.

How has ZapEvent been helpful while planning your event? ZapEvent is super easy to work with. If you ever have a question about your event or online registration site you can either easily edit it or ask one of the help folks to look into it. I have always had those questions answered in minutes which is really nice! I love the clean look of the registration page and ease of use from both the user and event end.

The Grand Traverse 2014
Race Date: September 27, 2014

Explore the beauty of Duluth Minnesota while hiking through the trails of The Grand Traverse. With four different distances to hike or run, this race has something for everyone. All distances start at the Fitger’s Brewery Complex in Duluth. Here is what director, Siiri Morse, has to say about The Grand Traverse experience:

Who should be registering for The Grand Traverse? The Grand Traverse is for all, from the ultra or marathon trail runner looking for a challenging supported run/race, to individuals who challenge themselves, and for families and friends enjoying the day on the trail together. Each distance offers great challenges and spectacular scenery. A portion of the entry fee is donated to the SHT (Superior Hiking Trail) to continue building and maintaining the trail in the Duluth area.

What is your favorite part of Race Day? My favorite part of race day is seeing people in the early morning, at the start, when participants are nervously excited and then again at the end of the day, when they tell great stories of adventure, wonder and achievement.

What other upcoming events should racers be keeping an eye out for? Other great Duluth area trail running races are Bangin’ in the Brush and Wild Duluth 100k/50k and Harder’n He!! Half Marathon.

What has been the best part about working with ZapEvent for your online registration? I have used ZapEvent for a long time. The company is easy to work with and if I have a question, they always have an answer and some helpful advice. I have had many [compliments] on the user side of ZapEvent, many from my family, who are the strongest critics.

How has ZapEvent been helpful while planning your event? I have always used ZapEvent for my events and understand how to post and create an online registration page, so it is one less headache and one thing I look forward to creating.
