We understand that it can be intimidating to take on the responsibility of a race director or event coordinator especially when it comes time to host your first event. We want to help make the process a little easier for you, that is why we asked our friend Sam Rush from Mountain Goat Running to share his advice for all you newcomers. Here are Sam’s 4 pieces of advice for new race directors:

Have Fun!
As the director you set the tone for the entire event. It is important to make sure that above nothing else you have fun. If you aren’t having fun it will be very transparent and your volunteers and participants won’t enjoy themselves either.

Acquire Great Volunteers
Find awesome individuals that are willing to help you!  Your volunteers are some of the most important people when putting on a race. Why? Because you can’t put on an event without them! Make sure your volunteers know they are valued and appreciated.
