The Walking Deadwood Zombie Run is a zombie infested 5k (3.1 mile) untimed run/walk with obstacles and crazy terrain that starts at the Days of ’76 Rodeo Grounds, loops through the Deadwood area, and returns to the rodeo grounds. Throughout the course, there will be Undead Zones where Zombies have taken over. Runners will need to get through these Zombie Zones “Alive” to survive. All paid participants will be entered into a drawing for prizes to be awarded at the end of the event.

You can participate as either a human runner or a zombie. Human Runner registration is $35 through September 15th, $40 September 16th-October 11th, and $45 the day of the event (based on availability).
Zombie registration is free, but zombies are responsible for doing their own make-up and costumes. Zombie make-up specialists will be on hand prior to the run, and for a donation, can help zombify you. Please arrive extra early if you would like their assistance. They will provide zombification on a first come first serve basis.
All pre-registered paid participants (Human runners) will receive:
1. An awesome Walking Deadwood Zombie Run t-shirt
2. A medal to use when bragging to your friends
3. Free Parking
Zombies will receive:
1.T-shirt for a special price of $10, available race day, while supplies last
2. Free Parking
At the start of the course human runners will be given a flag football belt (life Belt) with flags (life lines) on it. During the course, Zombies will try to take these flags from you. If you get to the finish line with a least 1 flag, you are a survivor. If you have no flags at the finish line, you have died, and become the undead.
There will be spare flags (life lines) hidden throughout the course that you can find and use if you have lost all of your flags. Hint: It is best to run in groups to try to protect those with few flags left.
Our post-apocalypse volunteers will help direct you through the courses. Beware; there may be a few zombies who have escaped the Zombie zones, wandering around looking for fresh food.
The day of the event, registration and check-in will start at 11:00am. T-Shirts and medals will be based on availability for anyone registering the day of the event. Event Day registration will be based on availability and will end before the first wave starts at 2:00pm.
The first wave of runners starts at 2:00pm with waves following every 15 minutes. Runners should arrive at least 30 minutes prior to his/her start time to receive flag belts.
Please plan on arriving by 1:00pm if you are a zombie so that you can have time to find your zombie zone. Zombies who arrive late might not be able to fully participate.
Runners and zombies under 14 years of age must be accompanied by a paid adult for the entire event. Runners and zombies under 18 years of age MUST bring a waiver signed by a parent or guardian. Click here to view and print the waiver.
Once registered, there will be no refunds or changing of wave times, as we will be ordering t-shirts, medals, etc. far ahead of time, and closing waves as they fill. Please plan for all types of weather. The event will only be rescheduled due to SEVERE weather that closes Black Hills area highway and interstate roads.
