Course update, January 26, 2017
Due to lack of snow, the “official” ski kite, nordic ski and snowshoe event will NOT be held, but we will have an opportunity for hardy souls to be out on the lake.
Ski kiters who want to have a fun event can come to the brewery at 10 am to meet with organizer John Klick. You will figure out what works given the conditions that day.
For the nordic ski/snowshoe event, anyone who is comfortable being on the lake with minimal snow coverage is welcome to join Race Director Rick Carter for a mass start event at 1 pm on the beach for a casual ski around Gideon’s Bay. There is a thin layer of snow around most of the bay. Strap on your skis, snowshoes, Yak Traks or crampons, grab your poles and take a leisurely stroll out on Lake Minnetonka. Do NOT plan to skate ski. You could double pole. There will be no grooming, no timing, and there are no biffs or bibs. Just stop to check-in at the Brewery between noon and 12:30 pm to get your free buff and head to the beach by 12:50.
For those of you who haven’t signed up yet, there is still time. Up until 10 PM Friday, you can register on line, join us for a fun ski, get a free buff and be eligible for some great prizes. You will also be supporting two great causes, the Freshwater Society and the ICA Foodshelf.
We will also be funding the grooming of Big Island as approved by the City of Orono http://www.startribune.com/orono-city-council-approves-ski-trails-on-lake-minnetonka-s-big-island/410703205/. Once we get enough snow, we will let everyone know the day they will be available to ski on.
There will be no refunds. If you do not come to get a bib and enjoy the party, e-mail Rick Carter and email@example.com and we will comp your registration for a future event.
See you there!
