IMPORTANT NOTE: We appreciate your consideration of our event and REALLY want YOU (and your family!) to participate. Unfortunately, due to the time-frames we have closed the online registration.  HOWEVER, we would still love your support and will have paper registration forms available at Girls On the Run booth at Lakefront Marathon Expo today between 9-6pm and tomorrow morning from 7am-8:15am before the run.  While we cannot guarantee a shirt size for you, we will be honored to have your support!

Join us for the 2013 Inaugural Badgerland Strider’s Community Unity run, a 2.62 mile FUN RUN where 100% of the proceeds will be donated to two youth fitness programs – Girls on the Run of Greater Milwaukee and the Milwaukee Police Department Endurance Club. Both of these organizations provide programs to help children not only get fit but also love getting fit.

Why 2.62 miles?  This is a play on the 26.2 mile Lakefront Marathon happening on the same day, at the same time.  You don’t have be able to run a marathon to have fun, get fit, and make a difference in the community.

Walkers, joggers, runners, and family groups are all welcome at the Community Unity Run.  You will enjoy walking/running along Lake Michigan, around the Veteran Park lagoon and into the same finishers chute as the Milwaukee Lakefront Marathon runners, finishing in time to cheer on the  I Can 26.2 It kids who will be completing their final 1.2 mile stretch after 10 weeks of accumulating running miles.

The I Can 26.2 It – One Mile at a Time is part of this year’s Milwaukee LFM Youth Running Program.  This is a 10-week build up program for youth 3rd through 8th grade.  These participants are accumulating 25 miles over 10 weeks with the guidance of Badgerland Striders, Girls on the Run and Milwaukee Police Department Endurance Club.  We are pleased to announce that over 100 kids are participating, persevering, and training leading up to their final 1.2 mile stretch which will take place right after the Community Unity run.   The kids will LOVE seeing your smiling faces, your encouraging cheers AND hearing your cowbells (part of your finishing gift).

Your participation in this FUN RUN supports and encourages the youth of to your community to live healthy, active and fun lives which leads to self-empowerment, respect, physical health, confidence, healthy camaraderie and so much more.  Please join us in building a strong community one youth at a time.
