Minnesota State University's Maverick Battalion has established the Michael John Fasnacht Scholarship Fund, whereby senior cadets and cadre award scholarships to eligible freshman, sophomores, and juniors based on their attitude, academic performance, ROTC participation, and overall financial need.

The Minnesota State University Veteran's Day 5k race occurs annually as a memorial to such local heroes as 1LT Fasnacht. All proceeds go directly to supporting future United States Army Officers.




Registration is on November 9th, 2013 from 8:00 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. in Myers Field House.

Race begins at 9:00 a.m.

Age groups: 19 and under 20-29 30-39 40-49 50-59 60+

First Lieutenant Michael Fasnacht Scholarship

The 8th Annual MSU Army ROTC Veteran's Day 5k race is a fundraiser for the Army ROTC Michael John Fasnacht Scholarship Fund. This scholarship is awarded to freshman, sophomore and junior cadets in the program based on attitude, academic performance, program participation and financial need.

This race is held each year in honor of MSU graduate, First Lieutenant Michael John Fasnacht. Lieutenant Fasnacht (8 February 1980 - 8 June 2005) was killed in action during a reconnaissance patrol in Ad Dawr, Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom III. He is survived by his wife, Tresa Fasnacht and his parents of Janesville, Minnesota.
